Peter Gibbins

Peter is a dedicated advocate for individuals harmed by others.  He is particularly zealous about holding corporations accountable for putting profits before people, and has seen firsthand how large businesses cut corners at the expense of others.  He is energized by challenging cases with complex legal and factual issues.

Prior to joining Zaner Law Personal Injury Lawyers, Peter worked at a nationally-known firm representing plaintiffs on a wide variety of matters, including a significant number of complex, catastrophic injury cases involving gas explosions, electrical explosions, structural failures, fires, defective products, trucking, and wrongful death.  He has litigated cases from inception through appeal.  In 2023, he obtained the 12th largest jury verdict in Colorado as second chair in a federal jury trial in the District of Colorado.

Peter studied political science at Metropolitan State University in Denver before attending law school at Washington University in St. Louis, where he also obtained an LLM in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution.  In law school he excelled in competitions for oral advocacy and client counseling, and he was a regional champion in the ABA Representation in Mediation competition.  He volunteered extensively including mediating landlord/tenant disputes in the St. Louis housing court.  He was a member of WashULaw’s Journal of Law and Policy, where his student note was published.  During his second summer in law school, he served as a summer clerk in chambers for a judge in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Missouri.    

After law school, Peter clerked at the Missouri Court of Appeals’ Western Division in Kansas City, Missouri, before clerking at the United States District Court, Western District of Missouri, also in Kansas City.  As a clerk, he handled an endless variety of cases and learned firsthand how judges think    Both his LLM in dispute resolution and his clerkships allowed Peter to shadow mediators and judges conducting settlement conferences as they worked with both sides to mediate case settlements.  This gave Peter an inside view of the mediation process that few attorneys ever see.

Peter’s professional background before coming to the law includes years spent in the labor movement as an organizer where he advocated for a wide variety of public sector employees working at the state and local levels.  His experience included workplace and political organizing, designing and implementing trainings, and negotiating a wide range of labor-management issues.  In 2025, Peter was elected to a four-year term on the Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education.

In his spare time, Peter stays active as much as possible, including biking, hiking, paddleboarding, and strength training.  He’s an avid cook and a music lover with an embarrassingly large vinyl collection.  Recently, he began playing guitar, albeit poorly.  In his younger years, he studied music and played trombone in a variety of ensembles.  He particularly enjoys spending time with his wife and son.
