What is a Transvaginal Mesh Implant?

Despite the recall, the FDA still approved implants for years more. It wasn’t until 2008 that the FDA finally issued a health alert, warning doctors about the potential risks stemming from some vaginal mesh implants. After this warning, the FDA received a rising number of complaints from patients about the problems caused by the vaginal mesh. Investigators tied the complaints to a variety of different manufacturers, with a notable spike coming from POP treatment. At this point, the FDA requested further safety testing from more than 30 vaginal mesh manufacturers for new products.
Given the FDA’s actions and the numbers of injuries and complications stemming from transvaginal mesh, it is clear that vaginal mesh implants can cause injuries and continue to do so. Some of the most common symptoms and consequences are:
